Microcement Shower and Wet Room Ireland
Completely waterproof, seamless from floor to wall, and grout-free for life. The microcement shower is the defining feature of the modern Irish bathroom.
Microcement Showers and Wet Rooms in Ireland
The microcement shower has become one of the most-requested bathroom features in Ireland. When you step into a shower where floor and walls are clad in a continuous microcement surface with no grout lines and no tile joints, the difference in feel is immediate — it is cleaner, more spacious and unmistakably high-end.
More importantly, it performs better than tiled showers. There is no grout to discolour, no silicone sealant to crack and harbour mould, and no tile joints for water to find its way through over time. A properly sealed microcement shower is one continuous waterproof surface from the floor drain to the top of the wall, and it will stay that way for 15-20 years with proper care.
Cementec Ireland supplies the complete microcement system for shower and wet room applications — including primer, microcement, tanking membrane and polyurethane sealant. All our shower projects are carried out by certified Cementec applicators who are trained in wet area application specifically. See our microcement bathroom page and waterproofing guide for more detail.
Why Microcement for Your Shower?
Fully Waterproof
Sealed microcement is not just water-resistant — it is genuinely waterproof. Combined with a tanking membrane in the substrate, it is the most watertight shower surface available.
No Grout to Clean
Grout in a shower is the most time-consuming cleaning job in the home. Microcement eliminates it entirely. There is nothing for limescale, soap scum or mould to grip onto.
Any Shape, Any Size
Unlike tiles, microcement is not constrained by fixed dimensions. It adapts to any shower shape, curved walls, niches and recesses — creating a fully custom finish.
Seamless Floor to Wall
Carry the microcement finish from the shower floor up the walls without any visible transition. This seamlessness is what defines the wet room aesthetic.
Can Go Over Existing Tiles
In most cases, microcement can be applied over your existing shower tiles, avoiding the disruption of removal. See our microcement over tiles guide for full detail.
Long Lifespan
A microcement shower lasts 15-20 years with normal use and periodic sealant maintenance. The polyurethane sealant can be refreshed every few years without full re-application.
Walk-In Shower Design with Microcement
The walk-in shower is perfectly suited to microcement. Without the constraints of tiles and grout, the designer has complete freedom to create any layout — a shower niche flush with the wall, a curved entrance, a full-height window in the shower, a linear drain that disappears into the floor.
Microcement also makes small walk-in showers feel larger. The absence of tile joints and the visual continuity of a single colour from floor to ceiling creates the illusion of a more expansive space. This is why microcement walk-in showers are so popular in Dublin apartment refurbishments and compact en-suite bathrooms.
Our applicators are experienced in walk-in shower installations of all configurations, including doorless wet room designs, frameless glass screen combinations and full shower pods.

Wet Room Microcement Applications
The wet room — where the entire bathroom floor and walls form one continuous waterproof space — is the ultimate expression of the microcement aesthetic. No shower tray, no screen, no visual boundaries between the shower area and the rest of the bathroom.
Microcement wet rooms require careful design of the drainage gradient — the floor must fall correctly to the drain point — and a robust waterproofing strategy. Our certified applicators are experienced in both the technical and design aspects of wet room installations.
In a wet room, microcement is typically applied to the floor, walls and sometimes the ceiling of the shower area, all in the same colour and finish for total visual coherence. Popular choices for wet room colour are neutrals — Off White, Arctic Grey, Sand, Sandstone — though bolder tones work beautifully in larger spaces.

Why Sealing Is Non-Negotiable
Microcement is water-resistant but not inherently waterproof. The sealant applied on top is what makes it waterproof. Skipping or skimping on the sealant is the most common cause of microcement shower failure. We use only premium polyurethane sealants designed for wet environments.
The Sealing Process
Two coats of polyurethane sealant are applied after the final microcement coat has fully dried. An anti-slip additive is incorporated into the floor sealant. The sealant is allowed to cure for 5-7 days before the shower is put into use. A tanking membrane beneath the microcement provides an additional layer of protection in shower areas.
Long-Term Sealant Maintenance
In a daily-use shower, the top coat of sealant benefits from being refreshed every 3-5 years. This is a simple process and does not require full re-application of microcement. Regular pH-neutral cleaning between sealant applications will extend the life of the finish significantly.
